Creating Online Reading Lists

For most online resources, a permanent link to the specific item or article is available.  These are variously called Permalinks, Persistent Links, Static URLs, Document URLs, OpenURLs and so on.  Generally, they appear at the bottom of the article in the citation.  Use the URL from the citation, not the browser’s address box.  For Ebsco, click on the Permalink in the Tools bar on the right side of the screen.

Add the following authentication prefix to the URL so that your students may view from off-campus: http://library.delmar.edu:2048/login?url=  Some Permalinks, such as Ebsco’s already include the authentication prefix.

For instance, if you want to link to this URL copied from Annals of American History...

http://www.america.eb.com/america/article?articleId=386419

Add the authentication prefix for off-campus prefix, and the above URL becomes…
http://library.delmar.edu:2048/login?url=http://www.america.eb.com/america/article?articleId=386419

Use this URL in your web pages, Blackboard and WebDMC Class Sites.

If you need assistance locating the Permalinks, feel free to contact Library Reference Services or Library Automation Services.
