What do I need if I want to check out or reserve materials, view videos or use a computer?
You will need a Del Mar College ID with the current semester's validation sticker.

Where do I get a Del Mar College student ID and validation sticker?

Del Mar College ID cards are available at the White Library (East campus) or Barth Learning Resources Center (West campus). ID cards are issued 30 minutes after opening until 30 minutes before closing. Validation stickers can be issued at any time only if the student has a copy of his or her account summary showing a zero balance.

ID cards must be validated each semester. Validation stickers are issued at both libraries, the business office in the Harvin Center (East campus) and the Administration Building (West campus) during normal business hours.

The ID policy is strictly enforced.

What are the libraries' rules?

Smoking is prohibited in the libraries.

No food or drinks are allowed near the computers; only snack foods and spill proof containers are allowed in the libraries.

Cellular phones and pagers must be turned off or placed on vibrate when using the second, third, or fifth floor study areas or the STC. Cellular phones may be used in the lobby areas ONLY.

Children MUST NOT be left unattended in the libraries.

Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone whose behavior is disruptive to others using the library, will be asked to leave the premises.

Do the libraries have computers available for students to do their homework?
Yes, there are computers available in the Student Technnology Centers in both libraries.

Is there Internet access in the libraries ?
Yes, the Internet is available in both libraries. In the White Library, there is Internet access in the Student Technology Center, Reference Department, 5th Floor Lobby, and Room 528. At the Barth Learning Resources Center, there is Internet access in the Student Technology Center, public access computers located at the back of the library, and Reference desk. The Internet may also be accessed through our wireless network.

Can I use my own wireless-network computer in the library?
Yes. However, students must register their wireless computer or other wireless-network device with the campus Information Technology department to access the network. Call 698-2330 or go to the Information Technology Help Desk located at the Multiservice Center for more information on registering your personal wireless computer.

Can I borrow a notebook computer?
Students may check out a wireless network computer for use in the building only. Ask at the Access Services Desk.

Do the libraries have copy machines?
There are coin-operated photocopiers and microfilm reader-printers in the libraries. The charge is 10 cents per copy. The individual making the copies assumes responsibility for compliance with the copyright laws. Copy machines are located on the first and second floor of the White Library and in the Barth Learning Resources Center at the west campus.

Where are the books/ magazines located?
Magazines in the White Library are located on the second floor or at the back of the west campus library. In addition, magazine and journal articles can be viewed and printed from several databases such as Ebsco and eLibrary.
Books are located on the third floor of the White Library and at the Barth Learning Resources Center as well. To check out books, take all materials to the Access Services Desk on the first floor and present a Del Mar College ID with the current semester's validation sticker.

Can I check out magazines?
No, but coin operated copiers are available. Magazine and journal articles may also be accessed and printed from several research databases such as Ebsco and eLibrary.

Where can I get the password for off-campus access to Ebsco and other research databases?
The password is for use by DMC students, faculty and staff only. Use of the databases is subject to the DMC Computer and Network Resources Statement of Acceptable Use. The password may be obtained from Access Services, Reference or the Barth Learning Resource Center at 698-1310, 698-1311 or 698-1753

Where can I get help if I can't get to Ebsco or the other research databases from off-campus?

Why can't I bookmark Ebsco or the other research databases from my home computer?
Why do I have to go through the library web page every time I want to use a database?
In order to purchase research databases for student use, the library agrees to restrict use to Del Mar College faculty, staff and students. All off-campus access must go through the library web page and the off-campus login page to comply with vendor requirements.

Are there study rooms and where are they located ?
Yes, study rooms can be found on the second, third and fifth floors of the White Library and at the west campus library, as well. Please note that these rooms muffle normal voice levels, but are not soundproof. Students may request chalk/ markers for study boards at the Access Services desk or the Reference desk, whichever is most convenient.

Can I reserve a group study room?
No, group study rooms are on a first-come, first-served basis. Preference is given to groups of three or more. Two large group study rooms that will accomodate up to twelve students are available on the Fifth Floor of the White Library. Larger rooms are available for groups of 8 or more. These can be scheduled through the Access Services Department.
