9. Student Technology Centers
Provide Computer Access
Both libraries have Student Technology Centers,
where students can complete course assignments, do online research, surf the Net, and check
their e-mail. There are computers in other areas of both libraries as
well.
8. Del Mar Libraries have
Excellent Traditional Collections, as well as Technological Strength
The libraries provide over 188,000 print volumes, more than 15,000 media titles, 770 current periodical titles, 9,000 microforms, and electronic access to numerous databases, 30,000 e-books and the contents of over 50,000 periodical titles.
7. DMC Students Have Access to Several
Libraries
Students can obtain a TexShare card that allows direct library borrowing at many
libraries throughout the state, including Texas A&M—Corpus Christi and
Kingsville and Coastal Bend College. We also do interlibrary loans for our students
who need special materials to complete their research. Just ask about these services
at the Circulation desk of either library.
6. The Libraries have Several Special
Collections and Features
Special collections include the Burt Escamilla Pennington signed book display
in the White Library and the Laurence Harville architecture collection in the Barth LRC.
The White Library also has a Sculpture Gallery on the fifth floor, which houses
the Library Purchase Award Collection, an exceptional grouping of small-scale
contemporary sculpture. Other permanent displays in the White Library include
the Alfred G. Trube model aircraft collection and pieces of the Berlin Wall
donated to the library by former student Michael Schulze. On Friday afternoons the
Library sponsors its free Curricular Enrichment Film Series, which includes a
variety of feature films selected and introduced by various faculty members.
5. The Library Website is a Major Information
Source for our Students
The library’s website (http://library.delmar.edu) provides access to all kinds of useful
information, including the library catalog DMCNet, subscription databases, links to other
colleges, and material about the library itself.
4. Keep our Reference Librarians
Happy-Ask them for Help when You Need It!
Some of us have studied and trained for YEARS learning how to do library
research. So, if you need help, please ask us. The Reference department in the
White Library is on the 2nd floor. At the Barth LRC, you can ask at the
Reference desk which is under the skylight in the center of the library. If you are
working from your computer at home and need assistance with your research, call us
at 698 1311. Helping you is our job – and we like our work.
3. The Libraries have Study
Rooms and AV Viewing Areas for Your Use
Both libraries have study rooms available to accommodate different study styles
and needs. In the White Library, these rooms are available on the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th floors;
in the Barth Learning Resources Center, they are located all over the Library against the
walls. If you find information you need in our audiovisual collections, equipment is available for
you to watch videos and DVDs and to listen to CDs or other audio formats.
2. The Libraries are here
for You
Let us know if we are doing something wrong or right! Both libraries have suggestion
boxes near the Circulation desks, so give us your suggestions or drop by the
Director’s office on the 5th floor of the White Library (phone: 698 1308). Finally,
if you would like to see a particular book, video, or magazine in the library – let us
know, either directly or through the suggestion box. We can’t buy everything, but we
will give serious consideration to anything you suggest.
AND . the number 1 fact
Del Mar College students need to know about library services: Always,
ALWAYS - have your currently valid Del Mar College ID card with you
so that you can use the Student Technology Center or check out library materials
This rule protects you by confirming that the person checking out Library property
is who he says he is. This rule also protects our resources by controlling access to
library materials and equipment. If you don’t have an ID, you can get it at the Circulation
Desk of either library. The first ID card is free; replacements cost $5.00.
