EMT-Basic PROGRAM
The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Program is a pre-requisite for our Paramedic Program. Admission into the EMT-Basic Program is a selective process and requires submission of a completed Pre-Screening Questionnaire and Application Packet.

Prior to entry into the EMT-Basic Program, students MUST:- Have TSI/REM Levels of Reading 3, English 3, Math 2
- Submit proof of successful completion of an American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers course. AHA BLS CPR is the only CPR certification accepted by the EMS Program. AHA BLS CPR courses are offered by the Continuing Education Department. Registration may be completed online.

Include in the e-mail subject line: “EMT-Basic Application Packet Request.” Provide your Name and DMC Student ID# (if available) and Date of Birth. Prior to receiving the application packet, we will send you a Pre-Screening Questionnaire (PSQ). The PSQ will assist us to determine if applicants meet the criteria to receive an Application Packet.

- Have successfully completed EMSP 1501 EMT-Basic and EMSP 1160 Clinical with a Grade of C or higher from a College or University.
- Have successfully completed BIOL 2401-Human Anatomy & Physiology I with a Grade of C or higher from a College or University.
- Submit proof of EMT-Basic or NREMT Basic Certification.
Admission into the PARAMEDIC Program is a selective process and requires submission of a completed Pre-Screening Questionnaire and Application Packet. You may request a Paramedic Application Packet by emailing us at emsprogram@delmar.edu. Include in the e-mail subject line: “Paramedic Application Packet Request.” Provide your Name and DMC Student ID# (if available) and Date of Birth. Prior to receiving the application packet, we will send you a Pre-Screening Questionnaire (PSQ). The PSQ will assist us to determine if applicants meet the criteria to receive an Application Packet.
JCAHO Requirements
Prior to starting clinical rotations, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requires that all students enrolling in the EMS program must:
- Have a current Tuberculosis test (no more than six (6) months old). Students who prove to be “positive” for TB may have to delay starting their clinical rotations until they are determined to be non-infectious. (approximately $15.00).
- Have completed the Hepatitis B series (3) of inoculations. (approximately $180.00).
- Submit current immunization records showing that all immunizations are current - MMR series (2), Varicella Series (2), Influenza (if attending program August-May), TDAP within the past 10 years. Fees for records are usually minimal. If immunizations are not current, fees are determined for the specific immunization(s) needed.
- Submit a criminal background check.
- Submit a drug screening. (DO NOT complete lab portion until notified by Clinical Coordinator.)
