Del Mar Regional Fire Academy
FIRE ACADEMY ADMISSIONS
The Del Mar College Regional Fire Academy trains cadets to be certified Texas firefighters based on Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) standards. Academies begin in the Fall and Spring semester. Admission into this program is a selective process. Application packets are available for distribution for the Fall Academy from May to Mid July. For the Spring Academy, request packets from October to December 1st.
To gain admittance into the Del Mar College Regional Fire Academy, candidates must complete the following:
- Apply to Del Mar College.
- Meet all Reading, English & Math (REM) requirements prior to entering the program.
- Levels MUST be: R3, E2, M1.
- Contact the Academy, via email, to request a Fire Academy Pre-Screening Questionnaire.
Due to the current evolving COVID-19 virus, you may request an application packet by emailing us at publicsafety@delmar.edu. We will send you a pre-screening questionnaire to determine if you are able to apply, see #2 above. For current students, please include your name, ID#, and phone#. - Pass a Background and Drug Screening through the CastleBranch site (effective Fall 2017).
- Clear all Del Mar HOLDS that will prevent registration into the program.
- Email completed Application Packet by established due date.
- Once accepted into the program, attend a mandatory Fire Academy orientation. Exact date of orientation will be given to students.
Students may not register themselves for the Fire Academy. The director of the Fire Academy will register students after they complete all admission requirements.
FIRE SCIENCE ADMISSIONS
The Fire Science program is an open enrollment degree program. To be admitted into the Fire Science program candidates must:
- Apply to Del Mar College.
- Meet all Reading, English, & Math (REM) requirements for the courses they wish to attend. (This will vary)
- Meet with a Fire Science Program Advisor for counseling as to which courses to take:

After a student earns 24 credit hours, they may register themselves online or through the Fire Academy advisor during Del Mar College registration periods.
