After admission and prior to the start of classes, each student must submit record of the following to comply with clinical agency requirements:
- Verification of completion and clearance of the Texas Board of Nursing DPS/FBI Criminal Background Check.
- Nursing applicants who have been arrested, convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation, diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized in the past five years for schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorders, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder, or addicted to or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug within the past five years, must file a declaratory order ONLY IF they have received a letter from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) instructing them to do so. However, an applicant who anticipates incidents on their criminal background check, may begin gathering information such as statement and court documents, but are NOT to mail these items to the BON unless instructed to do so. Students are required to follow the new student process which can be located at BON New/Accepted Student Process
- Students are required to take a drug screen prior to the beginning clinical rotation. Details on drug screen will be provided once student is accepted.
