Utility Management
Utility Management
The utility management plan includes the efficient usage of electricity, water, and natural gas by Del Mar College. The Physical Facilities department continues to pursue innovative ways to help conserve energy resources and means of improving operational efficiency.
The HVAC and Mechanical Service Unit acts as the energy management monitor. In this role, they ensure the plants are operated within the specified timeframes in order to achieve efficient equipment operations thereby achieving operational and energy efficiency.
Energy Management System
The energy management computer system assists in conservation of energy by controlling heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. The primary function of the system is to:
- Monitor office and classroom temperatures
- Turn HVAC equipment on and off based on a predetermined schedule
- Reset discharge air on handling units.
Natural Gas
Heating requirements for the campuses are minimal. The East Campus utilizes gas-fired boilers to provide heating water for the HVAC systems. The Physical Facilities department's conservation of natural gas consists of monitoring the heating and hot water supply temperatures and maintaining the gas-fired boilers so that they operate at maximum efficiency.
