Policy Information

In accordance with federal regulations effective July 1, 2011, Del Mar College (DMC) must provide funds for Federal Pell Grant eligible students to obtain books and supplies by the seventh day of the term.

DMC financial aid eligible students may charge books and supplies at the Del Mar Bookstore during set bookstore charging dates. Charging is allowed against Pell, FNDS, FNDD, FNDL, SEOG, TPEG/TPEGN, and Direct Loans. Charging will not be allowed for any other fund besides the funds listed above.

Bookstore Charging schedule

The following dates have been set aside for charging. 

2024-2025

  • Fall 2024: August 19 - September 10, 2024 
  • Spring 2025: January 6 - January 23, 2025 
  • Summer I 2025: May 27 - June 6, 2025
  • Summer II 2025: June 24 - July 7, 2025

(2024/2025 Dates are tentative and can be subject to change). 

Important

  • NO charging will be allowed before or after posted dates.
  • Student must be registered for the term for which books are to be purchased.
  • Financial Aid must cover all current institutional costs on student account before charging books against financial aid will be allowed (excess financial aid must be available).
  • Financial aid file must be complete, awarded and accepted.
  • If a student has a Direct Loan, an entrance interview and accepted master promissory note are required to be eligible to use financial aid for charging purposes.
  • Books/supplies can be charged at only one location (Del Mar College Bookstore-on Campus)
  • Books can be reserved online but must be picked up at the bookstore.
  • Students on financial aid suspension during the charging period will not be allowed to charge
  • Any downward adjustment to financial aid award due to canceling of classes, dropped classes or ineligibility may affect ability to charge. Student will be responsible for any charges previously charged to financial aid.
  • If student charges books to their financial aid and changes are made to their schedule and financial aid does not cover the total amount charged, the student will be responsible for any balance.
  • All Pell eligible students have the right to opt out of the process to purchase books and supplies that DMC provides. If student chooses not to charge (opts out) their books/supplies or they miss the deadline to charge, balances for all the above financial aid will be issued after the official census date for the semester.
  • If student chooses to charge their books, balances will be issued after the official census date for the semester (reconciling with the bookstore must take place before balances are issued).
  • Disbursement of balances for any of the funds not listed above will take place during scheduled disbursement times that will be established by Del Mar College (See Financial Aid Disbursement Schedules).
