Discover a new library resource each month to help you research, learn, and succeed all semester long!

Looking for a movie, documentary, or educational video? This month’s Resource Spotlight features Kanopy and Swank Digital Campus, two streaming resources available through DMC Libraries. Explore classic films, independent cinema, documentaries, educational videos, and major motion pictures—all available to support your classes, research, or viewing interests.

There’s plenty to explore at DMC Libraries this October! Stop by any of our library locations to check out a variety of displays throughout the month, including special displays recognizing Banned Books Week and Día de los Muertos. Take a look, discover something new, and join us in celebrating stories, culture, creativity, and remembrance all month long.

• October 1–11 | Banned Books Week Display
  Available at all DMC Library locations
  Explore a selection of books that have been challenged or banned and learn more about the freedom to read.

• October 19–November 5 | Día de los Muertos Display
  Available at all DMC Library locations
  Students and staff are invited to participate by bringing photos of loved ones to place on our Día de los Muertos altars as we honor and remember those who have passed.

The DMC Libraries subscribe to a large selection of research databases that support instruction and research. Databases are accessible both on campus and off campus. The Del Mar College Libraries maintain a large collection of textbooks for student use. Course reserve textbooks are available for short-term, two-hour checkout in-library use.

Students may access reserve textbooks at:

• White Library on the Heritage Campus
• Barth Learning Resource Center on the Windward Campus
• Oso Creek Campus Library

Faculty can place course textbooks or other materials on reserve by dropping them off at the service desks located at:

• Barth Learning Resource Center (Windward Campus)
• White Library, 1st floor (Heritage Campus)
• Oso Creek Campus Library, 1st floor

Faculty who would like items from the library collection placed on reserve are encouraged to submit the Library Faculty Reserve Request Form as early as possible.

The DMC Libraries provide LibGuides research guides for a wide range of subjects and classes. These guides offer an excellent starting point for research and subject exploration and are available through the Libraries’ website.

Books and Audio-Visual Materials

Books and audio-visual materials may be checked out at the Barth Learning Resource Center, White Library, or the Oso Creek Campus Library.

The Viking Reader

Faculty and students can learn more about library events, resources, and services through the Libraries’ blog, The Viking Reader. The blog is updated several times each semester and highlights new and noteworthy developments in the DMC Libraries.

Library Instruction

The DMC Libraries offer instruction in research and the use of library resources upon request. Sessions may be conducted virtually or in person and are tailored to course assignments and learning objectives.

Faculty may request instruction sessions using the Library Instruction Request Form on the Libraries’ website. Instruction is available for credit courses, Dual Enrollment classes, and Continuing Education courses.

Interlibrary Loan

If needed materials are not available through the DMC Libraries, students, faculty, and staff may request items through Interlibrary Loan by submitting either the Book and AV Materials Request Form or the Magazine and Journal Articles Request Form.

Interlibrary loan requests typically take two to three weeks to be processed and received.
